I sought out coaching because I was hoping to achieve clarity around my career goals. I understood my skill set but I was uncertain what was the next step on my career path. One major insight that I gained through coaching was confidence. I was uncertain about next steps and about leaving a good job with a great company. As I went through the coaching process, I realized that my skill set was actually larger and more transferable than I thought. The process also opened my eyes to the myriad of possible next career steps that I could take with my experience. Getting clarity around what I wanted from a company and what kind of challenges I wanted next was so valuable. Having the experience of informational interviews made me realize that I had narrowed down career choices to the right area. When the job description that matched my experience came across my desk, I knew right away to apply for it because I now knew what I wanted.
When I came to work with Kristen, I was looking for coaching through my candidacy for a role in my current organization. I was looking to gain clarity about whether to leave or stay in my current role through coaching. I also wanted to gain confidence on how to make a job move and how to network effectively. Through coaching, I learned the importance and the time it takes to build and maintain a professional network, whether or not I am in job search mode. My coaching experience meant taking time for me and doing what is good for me and my career. Kristen was wholly supportive of that and gave me good tools to do it. Because the coaching included structure takeaways and to-do’s, I now have these materials and Kristen’s feedback and can refer back to them at the right moment and time, or if I feel like I need some motivation.
I wanted to create a more thoughtful career plan and create a plan to get a new job. Through coaching with Kristen, I regained confidence to commit to a job search. I also gained an understanding of how to look for a job that aligned with my goals and strengths, instead of just looking for any job that I thought I was qualified for.
